Make a source sheet before writing

A description is easier to trust when its claims can be traced to the item. Record the product name, variant, material, dimensions, capacity, included parts, care instructions, price and delivery information. Give every disputed detail an owner. If you have not measured the capacity, do not ask AI to guess it from a photograph.

Separate the source sheet into confirmed facts, questions to resolve and possible messages. “Dishwasher-safe” belongs in confirmed facts only when you have the actual care specification. “Easy care after breakfast” is a message based on that fact. “Lasts a lifetime” is a different claim that the care specification cannot support.

Write in the order a buyer decides

Start by naming the item and its everyday use. Follow with two or three benefits supported by its specifications. Put detailed measurements and care in a scannable section. Then explain the information needed to complete the purchase, including variation, delivery and returns where relevant.

A customer should not need to interpret an atmospheric opening to discover what is being sold. For a mug, capacity helps someone compare it with the cup they already use. For clothing, measurements and fit may do more work than adjectives. Choose details from real buyer questions rather than an arbitrary word count.

Use a worked example, then adapt it

The example below describes a fictional product whose supplied facts are deliberately limited. It says the mug is handmade, but it does not claim that it is hand-thrown. It says the glaze varies, but it does not guarantee that every mug is unique. These distinctions matter when generated copy sounds plausible.

Keep the full specification beside the draft during review. Highlight each number, material, compatibility claim and policy. Check the title, feature bullets, photographs and checkout for agreement. A polished description cannot fix a photograph that misrepresents the item.

Make the page easier to maintain

Assign one place for the source facts and one person to approve changes. When a delivery policy or specification changes, update the product page and any related emails together. Record the date of the change so that you can interpret differences in orders and support questions.

Evaluate completed purchases and contribution per visitor alongside returns and support workload. A shorter page might receive more buy-button clicks while producing more disappointed customers. Use consistent traffic and order definitions, and treat small samples as observations rather than proof of uplift.
